Martin S Falin

Martin S Falin was born in Scott Co., Virginia about 1843. We know this because he lists Scott county as his birthplace in the vital records of two of his children. I have been unable to find a trace of Martin before 1863, however, when he enlisted in the 40th KY Mounted Infantry. He fought for the Union; the Scott county Virginia Falins who served in the Civil War were all Confederate soldiers. After the Civil War Martin married the daughter of one of his fellow soldiers, Henry Jefferson Evans, and settled in Carter Co., KY where he lived for the rest of his life. This roadblock is more than two decades old and I would love to find out who Martin Falin's parents were.

Hiram Damron

Hiram Damron was born in Virginia about 1807. He is found in Russell Co., VA in 1830. In 1838 he pays personal property taxes in Lawrence Co., KY and from 1839 onward he is found in Carter Co., KY. Some researchers have placed Hiram as the son of Richard Damron, who settled in Pike Co., KY. However, Richard's will, while listing his children, makes no mention of Hiram. Who are Hiram Damron's parents?

Henry T Moore, and is he related to Alfred A Moore?

Henry T Moore was born 6 Jun 1791 (bible record) in New York state (censuses) and moved to Ashtabula county, Ohio by 1812 when he servied in Capt. Parker's company during the War of 1812. He married Betsey Bartholomew in 1815 in Ashtabula county. They lived first in Harpersfield and then in Geneva, Ohio. A possible clue comes from an 1837 land transaction. Henry Moore sold land to Aaron Alderson on 20 Apr 1837 and Alfred A Moore provided a mortage to said Alderson on 1 May 1837. Both records are found in successive entries in Deed Book U. Alfred A Moore was born 10 March 1803 in Guilderland, Albany Co., NY according to his obituary. He married Mary Ann (Deuel?) and they removed to Trumbull County Ohio in 1831 and then to Geneva Ohio, where they remained until his death in 1872. I have yet to find who Henry Moore's parents are, or where in New York he was born. Are Henry and Alfred related? There is a 22 year difference in their ages, could be brothers or perhaps uncle and nephew? Any information appreciated.

 Mystery Photos

Grandpa and Grandma Sam Morre?

This photograph was among those belonging to my grandmother, Mary Brainard Pohto. The back of the photograph says "Grandpa and Grandma Sam Morre." Mary did not have an ancestor named Sam Morre, however, she did have one named Henry T Moore. Henry had a son named Samuel C Moore. Is this a photo of Henry and his wife Elizabeth, or perhaps Samuel and his wife Martha?
